Meaning: solve a problem by trying to think of it in a different way
How to use in a sentence: Sometimes when you can't solve a problem you need to think outside of the box and come up with a unique way of solving it.  When people complain about a slow elevator is, put mirrors on the doors.  Everyone looks at themselves or the others waiting for the elevator.  No more complaints.  Now that's thinking outside the box!
